Fusion 360 3d Sketch Spline

Ensure 3d sketch is turned on by going to preferences design and checking the box next to allow 3d sketching of lines and splines go to create coil and set the desired diameter.

Fusion 360 3d sketch spline. Fusion 360 does not have a sketch tool to automatically create a 3d spiral or helix. All sketches in fusion 360 are also 3d in nature. Fusion 360 will need the quads in order to make the t splines. This provides an optimal balance of geometry smoothness and ease of use.

Select the solid tab in the design workspace. 3d printed vases 3 ways to make fun vases in fusion 360. The 3d sketch manipulator will appear at the default location 000. For this project we selected 100000.

Select create sketch in the toolbar. Select one of the sketch commands supported by 3d sketch. Degree 5 is the default option and will give the best results for most scenarios. Check the 3d sketch box in the sketch palette.

Select the initial plane or face to begin the sketch on. Select the number of quads depending on your needs keeping in mind that fusion will struggle with a higher number. In fusion weve provided a choice from the two most commonly used spline degrees degree 5 and degree 3. With the same sketch active simply selecting the movecopy tool you can drag sketch elements into 3d space.

You can choose this from the spline degree option in the sketch palette while the control point spline tool is active. They create a variety of interesting shapes and small changes can make big differences in the outcomes. I created off set planes for each bulkhead and projected the correct bulkhead onto each. This time use the quad based mesh you just saved.

Please note that at the moment this does have an impact on dimensions. Re import the mesh into remake. I created an offset plane and projected the bulkheads on this plane. Create a 3d sketch in fusion 360.

These vases are a fun and functional way to introduce some of the tools and features of fusion 360. I uploaded these files to fusion as a canvas. Below is an active sketch with line and spline elements.
